Is Red Bull Halal?
⚠️ MushboohRed Bull contains taurine, an amino acid that may be animal-derived or synthetic. Red Bull GmbH does not disclose the source on UK labelling, and no halal certification is held for UK products. Until taurine sourcing is confirmed or certification obtained, UK Red Bull is Mushbooh.

Red Bull may be questionable in some cases, so the safest path is to confirm the specific product and ingredient list.
Is Red Bull Halal?
Red Bull is the world’s most-sold energy drink brand, produced by Red Bull GmbH in Austria. The UK market is served by the same formula sold globally. Like all mainstream energy drinks, Red Bull contains taurine — the ingredient that generates the most halal questions.
Red Bull contains 1,000 mg of taurine per 250ml can. The taurine used by Red Bull GmbH has been stated by the company to be synthetically produced, not derived from animals. However, this statement is not independently audited or reflected in a formal halal certification. The absence of third-party verification means UK Red Bull remains Mushbooh under strict halal standards.
Red Bull’s Own Statement on Taurine
Red Bull GmbH states on its website: “The taurine used in Red Bull Energy Drink is not derived from animals. It is produced synthetically.” This is a direct manufacturer statement and is broadly accepted by many Muslim consumers as sufficient assurance. However, HMC and other strict halal certification bodies require independent audit — manufacturer statements alone are not considered formal halal certification.
The mainstream Sunni position in practice: many Muslims accept Red Bull based on the manufacturer’s synthetic taurine claim. Others, particularly those following HMC guidelines, regard uncertified products as Mushbooh regardless of manufacturer statements.
Other Red Bull Ingredients
Red Bull Original contains: water, sucrose, glucose, citric acid (E330), sodium bicarbonate, magnesium carbonate, caffeine, niacinamide (B3), calcium pantothenate (B5), pyridoxine HCl (B6), vitamin B12, natural flavourings, and colour E150d (plain caramel). None of these ingredients are animal-derived. E211 (sodium benzoate) in the preservative system is synthetic and halal.
Red Bull Sugar Free and Editions
Red Bull Sugar Free uses acesulfame K and aspartame — synthetic sweeteners, both halal. Red Bull Editions (tropical, watermelon, blueberry) use fruit flavourings and synthetic colourings. No E120 or other animal-derived colourings are used in the standard Editions range, but always verify new releases.

Barebells
⚠ MushboohBarebells protein bars, soft bars, and milkshakes are not halal-certified in the UK, Sweden, or the US. The primary concerns are milk protein and whey protein from non-halal-certified dairy supply chains, and possible gelatine use (source unspecified) in some products for texture. The chocolate coating contains E476 (PGPR, plant-derived) and E322 (soya lecithin) — both generally halal — but the absence of any independent halal audit means the full range is Mushbooh.

After Eight
⚠ MushboohAfter Eight mint chocolate thins contain E471 (mono- and diglycerides) from an undisclosed source. No halal certification. The 'suitable for vegetarians' label on most After Eight products suggests E471 is plant-derived, but this is not guaranteed.
