Halal Brand Guide

Mott's products are not uniform. The core Assorted Fruit Snacks line is gelatin-free — Keurig Dr Pepper (the manufacturer) confirmed it uses fruit pectin, not gelatin, and the Amazon listing labels the product 'Gelatin Free.' Colours are from vegetable and fruit juice. No halal certification exists. Mott's Fruit Rolls are a separate product that contains non-vegetarian gelatin — Haram. Always check the label per SKU.

Smarties UK are vegetarian-certified but not halal-certified. Nestlé self-declares that E471 in Smarties is of vegetable origin, but this has not been independently audited by HMC, HFA, or MCB. No gelatin is used. Plant-based colours replaced artificial dyes in 2006. For Muslims who require a recognised halal stamp, standard UK Smarties are Mushbooh. Smarties manufactured for Malaysia and the Middle East may carry regional Nestlé halal certification.

Wonka Chocolate Bars do not list haram ingredients but carry no halal certification and share a production facility with pork-gelatin products — Mushbooh. No Wonka or Nerds product holds halal certification from any recognised body.

Bebeto is halal. All products are manufactured in Turkey and carry halal certification from Turkish halal authorities. The brand sets its mainstream gummies with halal beef gelatine, with plant-based alternatives (pectin, agar) on selected lines — no pork gelatine in any product.

Choceur chocolate (Aldi own-brand) contains no pork gelatine and uses E322 soya lecithin — a plant-derived, halal emulsifier. However, the vanilla flavouring listed has an undisclosed source (natural vanilla extract commonly uses ethanol as a carrier), and Aldi holds no halal certification from HMC, HFA, JAKIM, or any recognised body. Verdict: Mushbooh — the ingredients are not confirmed haram, but they are unverified.

Germany / United Kingdom · Milk chocolate bars, Dark chocolate bars

Kervan is halal. The brand is manufactured by Kervan Gıda in Istanbul and carries halal certification from Turkish authorities. No pork gelatine — all products comply with halal standards.

Turkey · Gummy stars, Gummy bears

Libanais pita bread is halal certified and explicitly E471-free — the brand uses no mono and diglycerides of fatty acids, which is the primary halal concern in commercial bread products. E471 can be pork-derived and is not disclosed on most bread labels. Libanais removes this concern entirely with a clean ingredient formulation.

Midamar is halal-certified by Islamic Services of America (ISA) and operates from a USDA-inspected facility. Founded in 1974 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, it is one of the pioneering halal meat producers in the United States. All Midamar beef is hand-cut zabiha halal. Poultry varies by product: items labelled Zabiha are hand-slaughtered, while others — including the fully cooked chicken tenders — carry Midamar's own note that the chicken is mechanically slaughtered. Readers who require hand zabiha should buy the beef and the Zabiha-labelled poultry only.

Noor Vitamins is a pioneer in US halal supplements, producing halal-certified fish oil, daily multivitamins, and children's vitamins since the early days of the halal health market. Noor states its capsules are free of pork gelatine and that its gelatine comes from halal sources — directly addressing the most common halal failure point in mainstream vitamins. Note the softgels are gelatine, not a gelatine-free shell; Noor does not state the species.
